Exploring

                        Exploring

“Let’s go exploring!” I exclaimed to my mom, dad, aunt, and siblings; Charlie and Caroline.

“Okay,” the adults responded, “Don’t go far and don’t get hurt.” I was so excited to use my new electric scooter my aunt gave to me. I was in Alabama for my great-grandmothers 90th birthday party. It was going to be amazing! My Aunt Cathy gave me her old electric mobility scooter so I would not tire myself out on my knee scooter. I had broken my foot one month before.

Me and my siblings headed out.

“Come on Ella,” my brother yelled back at me a few miles out, “That scooter is so slow. Dad needs to make it go faster!” My scooter was fast compared to walking, but with my siblings on bikes it was hard to keep up.

Sputter, sputter, sputter, putt. Oh no I thought.

“Charlie, Caroline wait my scooter is going slower and slower. Wait! It’s not moving! Do you hear me? Come back!” I yelled at siblings.

“What did you say?” they called back.

“I am stuck! My scooter won’t go! It’s out of batteries go get help NOW!”

“Ok Ella, I will go get help!” Charlie left. I waited, and waited, and waited.

“Caroline, go see if Charlie is okay. If you can’t find him come back to me in 10 minutes.”

“Yes Ella,” Caroline said when she left my side. I hope they will be okay I thought to myself.

Then I knew the real reason they weren’t coming back. We were so far away by then that that they didn’t know where we were or were the house was. We were lost and lost bad.

I needed to find a way back to the house and a way back to Charlie and Caroline now. Where did Charlie go? Where did Caroline go? Where can I go with my scooter dead? Questions swarmed through my head. I was scared. Hopefully Caroline would follow my directions and come back soon so we could figure this out together.

I decided to put my scooter in neutral so I could push it back to my house. I got two blocks and saw my grandfather’s car. Or so I thought. It was just another random car. But when I looked in through the window, it was one of my aunt’s friends. The car stopped in front of me. She got out and I told her about everything.

“What a coincidence,” I told her. She drove me back to my house.

“There are my siblings!” I told her as I peered out the window. They ran to the driveway as the car was still moving so they could run next to it. When the car stopped, I opened the car door so fast that it would have bounced back if they hadn’t caught it. I jumped out of the car not thinking of my broken foot but luckily, I didn’t land on it very hard. I was so glad to have such a good and close family. There are tons of different times like this, but those are other stories.
